MACHIAS – Louise D. Watts, 92, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Marshall Health Care, Machias. She was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Portland, daughter of the late Johannes and Etta (Fish) Dircksen.

Louise was a graduate of Machias High School, Class of 1936. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine at Machias and her master’s degree at the University of Maine, Orono.

She taught school in the Machias area and at the University of Maine at Machias for 25 years. She was a 50-year member of the Hannah Weston Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Ursula Penniman Federated Womans Club for more than 40 years and a recipient of the Pen Award in 2002 from Machias Extension Group, where she was a member. She was also a past matron of Machias Chapter No. 83 Order of the Eastern Star.

Louise is survived by her husband of 71 years, Alan B. Watts of Machias; a grandson, Marty Alan Watts of Florida; a great-grandson, Jonathon Garrett Watts of Florida; two brothers, Henry Dircksen of Eddington and John Dircksen and wife, Suzannne, of Galaway, N.J.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
