BRADLEY – Velma M. Oakes, 85, died Feb. 25, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born April 3, 1925, in Old Town, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Beaulieu) St. Louis.

Velma was a very giving and thoughtful woman. She loved all animals, especially her favorite cat, Mickey.

Velma is survived by her five children, Michael Oakes and his wife, Pam, of Milford, Mary Pilgrim, Betty Smith, Richard Oakes and his wife, Kim, and Barbara Grant and her husband, Dennis, all of Bradley; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Evan St. Louis; two sisters, Eva Knight and Rose Greenleaf; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Velma was predeceased by her son-in-law, Ronald Smith.

Family and friends are invited to call 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. All are invited to a light luncheon in the parish hall at Holy Family Church after the services. Interment will be in the spring.
