BANGOR, Maine — An investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the cause of a fire early Wednesday morning that caused heavy damage to a first-floor apartment at Sunset Meadows, a 40-unit housing complex located at 80 Sunset Ave.

Sgt. Tim York said Wednesday afternoon that the fire was deemed accidental with a human element. He said that a woman who lived in the unit with her daughter suffered a minor burn but did not require a visit to the hospital.

According to Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr, the fire began about 1:10 a.m. When fire crews arrived, fire was coming out of a first-story window.

The entire building was evacuated and everyone got out safely, Cyr said. He said fire damage was contained to the apartment in which the fire began.
