PITTSFIELD – Opal L. Carpenter, 92, died peacefully Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in Pittsfield. She was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Haynesville, daughter of the late Byron and Jannie (Bubar) Wiers.
She graduated from Hartland Academy and married Richard Carpenter. Opal was employed for several years by L.A. Dysart’s department store, Pittsfield. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her own clothing. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Pittsfield.
She is survived by two brothers, Byron Wiers of Palmyra and Dean Wiers and his wife, Lucille, of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard Carpenter, in 1985; and three brothers, Kenneth, Winfred and Alfred. The family says a heartfelt thank you to Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility for their wonderful care of Opal.
The family will receive friends 9-10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, with a funeral service immediately afterward at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. A committal service will be held in the spring at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
