- What is your motivation to “Move and Improve”?
I would like to be as fit as I was a few years ago. I was an avid runner and I felt much better when I was more active. I have a family history of arthritis and I’m hoping to keep myself in the best shape possible to avoid the complications they’ve had.
- What is your biggest obstacle to “Move and Improve”?
Pain. I have severe arthritis in my jaw, which means I have chronic headaches. I have pain in other joints as well. The medications I take to control pain make me drowsy and lethargic, which has led to inactivity, which has led to weight gain.
- What kind of activities do you engage in to reach your goal?
I would like to run again, but I will need to consult with my doctor to see if this is a safe activity for me. In the meantime, I’ll be doing low-impact cardio at the gym, I’m going to attempt spin class, pilates, snowshoeing — weather permitting — and strength training.
