YARMOUTH – Morrell S. York, 69, well known and respected funeral director, died peacefully March 9, 2011, with family by his side at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

Morrell continued to serve his families with kindness and respect throughout his career. He strived to offer his families services that reflected their loved one’s life without placing a financial burden on the surviving family members. With this vision and his desire to serve, Morrell founded Independent Death Care in the late 1990s.

Family and friends are invited to call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Independent Death Care, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. A service of remembrance will be held immediately after. A full obituary will be forthcoming for the Saturday and Sunday edition of the Portland Press Herald. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted at any branch of Bangor Savings Bank to assist in the construction of a “Garden for Reflection” outside Independent Death Care in the loving memory of Morrell York.
