HERMON – Leland George Nowell, 72, died peacefully March 14, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Aug. 22, 1938, in Levant, the son of L. Watson and Theo H. (Wiggin) Nowell.

Leland grew up in Levant and Hermon and graduated from Hermon High School, Class of 1957. He had a wonderful reputation as a mechanic and welder at his garage in Hermon. Leland worked hard but also enjoyed making time to talk to people when they came in to visit. He loved his work and the people he worked for.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Ruth (Tozier) Nowell, in 2010; his daughter, Dawn Marie; and his brother-in-law, Vern Libby, whom he loved like a brother. He is survived by a daughter, Lauren Russell and husband, Charles, of Kentucky; three stepsons, David Wiggin and wife, Robyn, of Hermon, Steven Wiggin and wife, Debra, of Hermon and Keith Wiggin and wife, Pamela, of Levant; two sisters, Sherrill Libby of Levant and Anne Freeman of Hermon; grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua, Dustin, Christopher, Shannon, Jason, Jessica and Melisa; and great-grandchildren, Gavin, Carter and Kaydience. A special thanks to Pam and David for the incredible care, love and support they showed to the family throughout Leland’s illness.
