WOODLAND – Elvie May Bubar, 96, passed away March 15, 2011, at a Caribou nursing facility. Elvie was born June 3, 1914, in Woodland, the daughter of Eugene H. Pike and Edna Estella (Russell) Pike. Elvie was the second daughter of the surviving family of 10 children.

Learning early to care for the needs of the home and the younger siblings, many of them later vowed that she was their second mother. She loved life and provided lots of fun and games for them. Work itself was also fun. They picked wild strawberries, raspberries, fiddleheads, gathered hazel and beech nuts, and of course, picked potatoes to pay for their winter clothes. On Nov. 11, 1936, she married Edman Bubar, with whom she lived happily in Carson for 51 years.

Not having children of their own, their home was always open to other siblings, nieces, nephews and village friends.

She was a great listener and comforter. She often waited on the sick and elderly.

She is survived by her sister, Ruby Sands and her husband, Hebert; sister, Blanche Bartlett and her husband, David; one brother, Eugene H. Pike Jr. and his wife, Trudy; sister-in-law, Elnora Deschene Pike, wife of Leander; sister-in-law, Louise Hebert Pike, wife of Ben; many loving nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ed; sister, Pauline Thomas and husband, Leonard; brother, Charles and his wife, Phyllis Lloyd Pike Corey; brother, Allen; sister, Bernice Parker and her husband, Dale; brother, Leander; and brother, Ben.

Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Perham Baptist Church, Perham, where funeral services will be held immediately after the visitation 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Goupille officiating. A reception will be after the services in the church dining room. Interment will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are in care of Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou.
