CLIFTON, Maine — Residents will cast ballots in local elections Saturday morning and consider 39 warrant articles at the annual town meeting Saturday afternoon, 14 of them dealing with the inch-thick land use code enacted last year.
Three newcomers are running for two open selectmen seats now held by Penny Peasley and Julie Clewley. Peter Beckford, Erick Jellison and John Williams are on the ballot.
Jessica Grey, who was elected to the SAD 63 board of directors last year to fill a one-year vacancy, is running unopposed for a three-year term.
Local election booths are open 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Clifton Town Hall, and the annual town meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at the same location.
Old Town hosting ‘Iron Chef’ competition Saturday
OLD TOWN, Maine — The Crossroads Ministries and Resource Center will host a local “Iron Chef” competition with a twist on Saturday, according to executive director Brenda Davis.
“All the ingredients have to be found in our food pantry,” she said. Four local chefs from Old Town will compete, and “each chef will prepare a bean dish and a soup dish.”
Crossroads hosts a food pantry and thrift store on Wood Street that helps feed and provide heating assistance to hundreds of local families from the Old Town region.
“The dishes will be judged by Old Town firefighters and members of the public in attendance,” Davis said.
The event is being held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 5 Gillman Falls Ave. The 2nd Chance Band made up of local band members will provide music. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
Admission is $10 per person, $15 per couple, $20 for families of up to five and $30 for families of six or more. All proceeds will benefit the Crossroads Ministries and Resource Center.
“These proceeds will aid us in supplying food resources as well as heating fuel and electric bill payments in the months to come,” Davis said.
