BANGOR – Franklin Joseph Martin, 91, husband of the late Laura E. (Perkins) Martin, died March 18, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Old Town, the son of Hubert and Alice (Dube) Martin.

He graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1938. Frank was a World War II veteran, U.S. Army, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and later on, nine years with the Naval Reserves. He worked for W.T. Grant for 27 years. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Frank enjoyed carpentry work, picking fiddleheads and berries, and his camp at Upper Enchanted Township. Frank was an avid Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox fan. He was known by some people as the hardest working man on Center Street.

Sadly missed by and surviving are two sons, Michael Martin and Mark Martin, both of Bangor; and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Lorena. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Laura Martin; five brothers, Jack, Ralph “Pepper,” Donald, Alfred and Raymond; four sisters, Imelda Cowan, Gladys Comstock, Martha Cote and Doris “Dolly” St. Louis; and a special friend, Mary Bessey. The family expresses a thank-you to the staff of the B Unit at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, and especially to Jasmine and Mike for the great care given to Frank.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
