SACO and FORT FAIRFIELD – Gail Craig, 62, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2011, surrounded by her family at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Tilley, New Brunswick.

Gail was a loving wife, mother, nana, sister and friend. Aside from being all of these, she was a teacher and loved it – it was her calling in life. She genuinely loved the children and they loved her right back. She worked as a teacher for most of her life, going back to college for her degree in teaching after raising her children. While teaching she took classes to obtain her master’s degree in special education. For the remaining years after receiving her master’s degree, she taught children with learning disabilities. Her last three years of teaching were at Frank Jewett Elementary School, Buxton. She was looking forward to teaching at the new Buxton Center Elementary School before she had to retired due to her illness. Other activities she enjoyed were golfing, gardening, painting, karaoke and soaking up the sun on the beach, while enjoying a good book.

Gail was predeceased by her husband, David Arnold Craig of Fort Fairfield; her parents, Melvin and Shirley Parker; and a brother and sister. She is survived by her companion, John Czapla; her son, Kevin and his wife, Linda, and their three children, Chelsea, Mitchell and Rachel Craig, all of Saco; her daughter, Pamela Gail Craig and her partner, Dean Parker, and her son, Hunter Craig, all of Limerick; four sisters, Kay Hanson and her husband, Gary, Diann Campbell, Hope Sprague and her husband, Gene, and Faith Moorecraft and her husband, Reid; six brothers, Curtis Parker and his wife, Freida, Everett Parker and his wife, Marci, Allen Parker, Wayne Parker and his wife, Sue, Jeff Parker and Mark Parker and his wife, Helen; many nieces and nephews. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

A wake in her honor will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Celebration Center, 170 Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield. Interment will take place later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
