CHERRYFIELD and DEER ISLE – Richard C. Smith, 57, died peacefully Friday, March 25, 2011, at his home in Cherryfield. “Ricky” was born June 26, 1953, in New York, son of Ann and Andrew C. Smith.

Ricky came to Cherryfield to live with his twin brother, Andrew, at the Duston Home in November 1999. While there and at Fish Point House, Milbridge, Ricky enjoyed walks around the river, camping, time near the water and generally getting out and about in nature. Favorite past times were van rides, hanging out with his friend and housemate, Dotty, listening to Harry Potter stories and especially swinging in the back yard. He had a special love for each and every one of his dedicated care providers, and looked forward to time spent with them. Ricky taught all to look beyond the “impossibilities” to the infinite possibilities.

In addition to his mother, Ann Smith of Deer Isle, he is survived by his brothers, Ted, Michael, Scott and William Smith; sisters, Penny Kumiega and Marianne Mulherin; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Andrew Smith; his twin brother, Andrew P. Smith, and his youngest brother, Eddie Smith. He has left behind his Cherryfield family, comprised of caregivers and friends who loved him and will always be grateful for the gift of his friendship in their lives, including Alice and Peter Duston, Trisha Robinson, Sarah Hurlburt, Janet Christrup, Trish Rossi, Sunshine Strout, Heidi Harrington, Marcia Ladrigan, Nancy Ives, George West and the entire Duston/Yates family.

A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at First Congregational Church of Cherryfield with the Rev. Larry Zimmerman, presiding. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth.
