SANFORD – Thomas “Tom” H. Higgins, beloved husband and devoted father and son, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, from a massive heart attack while playing football with his children. Tom was born June 14, 1962, in Greenwich, Conn., the second child born to Garry T. and Margaret H. (Hubbard) Higgins, and spent his early childhood in Greenwich, Conn.
Tom attended the University of Maine, Orono, and met his future wife, Marlene. Together, they had three great kids, David, 17, Carolyn, 12, and Lily, 8. Tom was a hands-on dad, he shared in their enthusiasm in playing baseball, acting in plays and going to church together.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 22 years, Marlene (Cousins) Higgins of Sanford; his son, David Higgins; two daughters, Carolyn and Lily Higgins, all of Sanford; parents, Garry and Margaret Higgins of Greenwich, Conn.; brother, Garry Higgins and wife, Barbara, of Brewer; sister, Amy Corsale and husband, Dennis, of Export, Pa.; in-laws, Leon and Lilia Cousins of East Millinocket; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Family and friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., Alfred. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson St., Sanford, with the Rev. Susan Murphy officiating.
