DIXMONT – Melvin L. Waning, 77, died April 12, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born July 9, 1933, in Dixmont, son of Earl and Mary (Murphy) Waning.

Melvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a car salesman for T.W. Clark for several years, until illness forced his retirement. He was very involved with horse pulling and was a member of the Maine Draft Horse Association.

He is survived by his wife, Janet (Norris) Waning of Dixmont; two sons, Dale Waning and Lance Waning, both of Dixmont; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Leslie Basford of Burnham and Toni and Doug Nichols of Plymouth; one grandson, Josh Knowlton of Fairfield; a brother, Richard Waning and his wife, Tracy, of Carmel; special sister-in-law, Joyce Waning of Plymouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Raymond Waning.
