LAMOINE – Susan Abbott-Christie passed away April 14, 2011, with her husband and daughters by her side, at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor. Susan was born June 28, 1955, at Fort Dix, N.J., daughter of Jean and Richard Abbott.
She attended school in Lewisberg, Pa., and graduated from Penn State University. She was for many years a nurse at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She worked also as school nurse for Sumner High School and with Mount Desert Nursing Association. One of her last and most enjoyable jobs was at Westside Florist, where most of her inner beauty manifested in floral displays. Her most favorite job was as nana, caring for her grandson, Mathew. Susan was a kind, compassionate and thoughtful woman. Her gentle nature, consistently displayed to her work colleagues, family and friends, made everyone a bit better. She was a role model for ultimate care giving with an infectious smile that would quietly bring calm and comfort to those around her. Her gift to those who knew and loved her was “pass on kindness to all, be grateful for the blessings in life, see goodness and smile!”
Susan is survived by and an inspiration for her three beautiful daughters, Emily, Caitlin and Julia; grandson, Mathew; son-in-law, Zach; and grateful husband, Bob. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Abbott of Winfield, Pa.; and brother, Rick Abbott of Glide, Ore. She was predeceased by her father, Richard.
Friends and family are welcome to a celebration of Susan’s life 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Lamoine Baptist Church, Lamoine.
