STEUBEN – Myra Esther Parritt died April 16, 2011, in Ellsworth, after a short illness. She was born May 3, 1918, in Corea, daughter of Alvin Tracy Young and Annie (Young).
She moved to West Bay to live with her grandparents, Dennis and Maggie Young, and attended West Bay schools and Steuben High School. She lived in Steuben all her life. Myra married Leslie Curtis Parritt of Somerville, Mass., and Steuben. They had three sons and one daughter. She worked for 29 years in the nursing department of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. After retirement she traveled to Florida, Arizona and Texas. Myra loved flowers and spent many happy years working in her gardens and mowing her lawns. As a 20-year member of Bangor Singles Club, she enjoyed evenings dancing with her friends. Although stricken with rheumatoid arthritis and house-bound for 12 years, she continued to stay active and involved. Her grandchildren, Andrew and Nina, were a special joy in her later years. In 2010 she received the Boston Post Cane as the most senior citizen in Steuben. Myra enjoyed life and will be very much missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her father and mother; her husband, Leslie; son, Alfred “Fred”; half sister, S. Dorothy Perry; and two stepbrothers, Lloyd and Walter Moore. She is survived by her half brother, Durrell Moore; sons, Leslie and Ronnie and his wife, Julie, of Steuben; daughter, Roberta and her husband, George McLaughlin, of Watertown, Mass.; granddaughters, Valerie and her husband, Kerry Geel, Rhonda and her husband, Ted Hamilton, and Evelyn Smith; grandsons, Craig Light, Dennis Ellis and Andrew Parritt; granddaughter, Nina Parritt; great-granddaughters, Nicole Leighton, Jamie Geel, Larisa Hamilton and Jordan Smith; great-grandson, Casey Hamilton; and great-great-grandsons, Dylan and Jacob Geel.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Corea Cemetery. A celebration of her life and her son, Fred’s life will be after at 28 Navy Drive, Winter Harbor.
