EAST MILLINOCKET – Winnifred (Levesque) Deschene, 87, passed away April 28, 2011. Winnie was born May 7, 1923, in St. Andre, New Brunswick, daughter of Denis and Beatrice (Dube) Levesque.

She and her husband, Claude, spent many years at Cedar Lake when their children were young. During retirement they enjoyed summers working at Kidney Pond Camps in Baxter State Park, as well as fishing and camping, cookouts and campfires at Nesowadnehunk Lake with their friends. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. Winnie taught evening sewing and upholstery classes for many years at Schenck and Stearns High schools. She was a very talented seamstress, passing along this trait to her daughters. The holidays were always surrounded by family, the house wasn’t big enough to hold us all, but she always made room for us and enjoyed “feeding the tribe” as she used to refer to us.

Winnie is survived by her seven children, Claudette Green and husband, Dennis, of Brownville, Verna Ferland and husband, Jim, of Sydney, Velma Appleby and husband, Bill, of Millinocket, Linda Ambrose and husband, Rick, of Glenburn, Camille Deschene and wife, Nancy, of East Millinocket, Donald Deschene of Grindstone, and Burt Deschene and wife, Arlene, of Lee; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Leo Levesque of Louisiana; a brother-in-law, Roland Deschene of Hampden; and a sister-in-law, Alexina Deschene of Drummond, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude, in 2006; as well as her brothers, Burt and Denis Levesque, originally of St. Andre, New Brunswick.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket, with the Rev.
