BELFAST – Harold “Hal” E. Halliday, 71, passed away May 2, 2011, in Belfast. He was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Wilton, the son of Harold and Virginia (Merchant) Halliday.
He graduated from Skowhegan High School and the University of Maine. He taught physical education at Hampden Academy and Weatherbee School, Wilton Academy and Mount Everett, Sheffield, Mass. For the last 30 years until his retirement, he was a coach and physical education teacher at Belfast Area High School. He loved going on field trips to France with the kids and always enjoyed a good debate. He also liked his white water canoeing trips.
He was predeceased by his parents; and an infant daughter, Darci Ann. Hal is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sally P. Halliday of Belfast; his children, Shari Seger and her husband, Charles, of Waldo, Harold Scott Halliday and his wife, Amy, of New Mexico, Heather Halliday of Bar Harbor and Jill Halliday of Georgia; his siblings, Pat Daniels of Skowhegan and Terry Halliday of Norridgewock; nine grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Family and friends may call 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. A celebration of Hal’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Belfast Area High School gymnasium.
