SHERMAN and ENFIELD – Ella Shaw, 86, passed away May 4, 2011, surrounded by her family at Penobscot Valley Hospital, Lincoln. Ella was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Sherman, daughter of Ivan and Lydia Hunt, and attended Sherman schools.
She married Verl Shaw and they resided in Sherman until his death. She then moved to Enfield to be close to her daughter. She grew up on a potato farm and had a lifelong love of gardening. Her family was very special to her and she devoted her life to them. Ella and Verl were very humble. Ella faced many health issues and limitations without complaint. She remained as independent as her health permitted and was grateful to be able to stay at home.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Verl; brothers, Burleigh Hunt and Otis Hunt; a son-in-law, Frankie Duffy; a grandson, Bobby Duffy; and great-granddaughter, Kayla Duffy. She is survived by her children, Lorraine and Mark Filanowski of Sherman and Connecticut, Lois and Morris Prior of Rhode Island, Leslie and Margaret Shaw of Brewer, and June and Owen Smith of Enfield. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Bernadette Hunt of California, Betty Joy of Veazie and Mary Hunt of Sherman – her special earth angel; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Ronald and Helen Shaw of Massachusetts.
