VEAZIE – Thaxter A. Shean, 91, husband of the late Lena N. (Zoidis) Shean, died May 4, 2011, at his home. He was born May 1, 1920, in Bangor, son of Thomas and Josephine (Hathorn) Shean.

“Thaxter,” or “Bud,” as he was known, attended schools in Bangor and worked as a painter in the Bangor area for most of his life. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving with an ordnance and maintenance company in the Pacific Theatre. Bud was a talented and passionate woodworker. Throughout his life he produced numerous tables, hutches, chests, picture frames and many other items for friends, family and neighbors. He was also known for his wonderful cooking skills. He never made a meal he didn’t like; he rarely dined in restaurants because he knew he could always prepare a better meal on his own. Whenever he had guests, he insisted on cooking a meal for them.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1995. Surviving are one daughter, Theresa Skillin of Westbrook and half brother, Leonard Sampson of Buxton; two grandsons, Fred Skillin of Westbrook, and Matthew and his wife, Danielle Skillin, of North Yarmouth; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Connor Skillin; a niece, Barbara Davis of Buxton; a great friend, Ruth Fields of Bucksport; and his dear friends, Melissa McCann of Winterport and Terry Bourgoin of Kenduskeag.

Family and friends may visit noon-2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, in honor of Bud’s life. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Condolences may be offered to his family at
