BELFAST – Jane Fossett Spear, 82, died May 4, 2011, at Waldo County General Hospital, Belfast. She was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Bristol, daughter of Edward and Ila (White) Fossett.

She graduated from Morse High School, Bath, Class of 1946. Jane was a 45-year member of First Baptist Church, Belfast, where she was named an honorary deacon in 2009. For many years, Jane visited the sick at the local hospital and nursing homes. She was also famous for her scrumptious mountain cookies.

She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Frances Leach; brother, John Fossett; and her husband of 42 years, Donald Spear Jr. Surviving are her children, Donald III and wife, Donna, of Colorado, Ronald and wife, Millie, Catherine Holland and husband, Glenn, and Cynthia Gilpatrick and husband, Jay, all of Belfast; eight grandchildren, Jenifer, Andrea, Angela, Jason, Travis, Edward, Veronica and Ronald Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Lindsey, Gavin, Samantha, Lauren, Joshua, Emily, Levi and Cooper; sister, Mary Grant of Belfast; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at First Baptist Church, 95 High St., Belfast, with the Rev. Foster Williams officiating. Those who wish may make donations in Jane’s memory to Hospice Unit, care of Waldo County General Hospital, P.O. Box 287, Belfast, ME 04915.
