EASTPORT – Linda Jane Milenkovic, 64, passed away peacefully May 10, 2011, at her home, with her husband, Heinz, at her side. Linda was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Geneva, N.Y., to Robert and Irene (Willard) McDole.
Heinz and Linda were married Aug. 7, 1971, in Wheaton, Ill. For more than 30 years Linda enjoyed raising and breeding malamutes for show and weight pulling competitions; her love for the dogs was great, keeping one little guy, Halen, right up until her final days. Linda served on the board of directors at Eastport Art Center; the There’s Hope in Washington County conference, which addressed the needs of cancer patients in the Washington County area, and she was also involved in the creation of a cancer action group in Machias that assists cancer patients in rural areas with access to care. Linda also worked as a hospice volunteer for Downeast Hospice for four years.
Linda was predeceased by her father, Robert McDole; and her daughter, Megan Milenkovic. Surviving are her loving husband of almost 40 years, Heinz Milenkovic; mother, Irene McDole of Prescott, Ariz.; son, Matthew Clark Milenkovic and his wife, Sydney, of Seattle; sister, Patricia Trout and her husband, Michael, of Sheridan, Wyo.; and a close family friend, Gail Borenstein of Illinois.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Heinz and Linda’s 40th wedding anniversary, Aug. 7, in Eastport. A time and place will be announced at a later date.
