NEWBURGH – David A. Newcomb, 86, passed away May 17, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 24, 1924, in Newburgh, son of Charles D. and Mary (Newborg) Newcomb.
David attended Newburgh schools and was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1942. He was also a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, Class of 1944 and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He worked as a printer for the Washington Post, Washington, D.C.; Hartford Times, Hartford, Conn.; and for the Bangor Daily News for 21 years. David was a member of Hampden Congregational Church, Hampden Historical Society and Simpson Post No. 201 of the American Legion of Dixmont. He enjoyed beekeeping, gardening and camping.
David is survived by four nieces and a nephew, Jean Newcomb, Mark Newcomb, Carol Newcomb-Jones, Diane Newcomb-Moore and Gale Fomkin.
At David’s request services will be private and interment will be in the family lot at Chapman Cemetery, Newburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hampden Congregational Church, P.O.
