HOULTON – Gladys Mae Gravel, 79, died May 13, 2011, at a local health care facility. She was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Houlton, the daughter of Benjamin A. and Marion E. (Hunter) Fleming.

Gladys was a member of the Salvation Army for 65 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed taking care of her family.

Gladys is survived by her five children, Leonard Gravel and his wife, Susan, of Winterville, N.C., Bonnie Doty and her husband, Chuck, of Shelley, Idaho, Eugene Gravel and his wife, June, of Buxton, Cynthia Rockwell and her husband, Boyd, of Island Falls and Randy Gravel of Houlton; grandchildren, Sean Kirk, Troy Gravel, Jeremy Gravel, Jimmy Gravel, Lisa, Amanda, Joanie and Nicholas Gravel, April and Samantha Doty, Kristina, Jennifer and Boyd Rockwell III; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Georgie Morin and Marion Polchies, both of Houlton; her brother, George Gramour of Caribou; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert E. Gravel; her son, John; grandson, Christopher Gravel; and two brothers, Jimmy Fleming and Bernard Gramour.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army with Maj. Herma Pearl officiating.
