ORONO – Virginia B. Beal, 86, dear wife of Gordon Beal, her husband of 65 years, died unexpectedly May 16, 2011, at her home. She was born Dec. 17, 1924, in Castle Hill, the daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Belyea) Griffin.
Virginia was a graduate of Mapleton High School, Class of 1941, and Washington State Normal School, Machias, in 1944, and attended Bliss Business College, 1944-1945. She was a member of United Baptist Church, Old Town, where she taught Sunday school, Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School and Women’s Bible Study groups. Virginia enjoyed quilting and especially fishing and boating with her husband, Gordon, and the family throughout the years, as well as family reunions, alumni banquets in Mapleton, get-togethers and activities with family and friends at the family camp on Beech Hill Pond.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Bonneva Stevens of Charleston, Esther and her husband, Albert Martin, of Red Oak, Texas, and Nina and her husband, Donald Fuller, of Old Town; her sister, Maxine Hotham of Presque Isle; her brother, Ralph Griffin of Orrington; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hudson, Melinda Nunez, Stephanie Fuller, Brad Martin, Johanna Graves and Sharon Aigler; five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at United Baptist Church, 86 Middle St., Old Town, with the Rev. Bruce Stevens and the Rev. Scott Benner officiating. Relatives and friends may call noon until the time of service Saturday. Interment will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
