CLIFTON – Kenneth “Ken” N. Hastings, 72, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011. He was born April 14, 1939, in Holbrook, Mass., son of Newton Hastings and Ella (Faulkner) Walkup.
As a young man Ken worked for County Tree Service and became a skilled tree surgeon. He later took over the business, which thrived for many years. He would then go on to own Ken Hastings and Son Power Equipment, Holbrook, Mass. He was a lifetime member of Old Colony Sportsman Club, Pembroke, Mass., and was a champion archer. Ken retired to Clifton in 1987. He was a woodsman, loved hunting and fishing, and was a Maine woods logger for many years.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Ruth (Parkinson) Hastings; daughters, Leslie Hastings and Cheryl Vargas of California, and Shirley Souza of Forestdale, Mass.; son, Stephen Hastings of California; sister, Virginia Hastings Ostiguy; grandchildren, Sara Vargas, Kristin Souza and Joshua Souza; nieces and nephews, Michael and Jeanine Ostiguy, and Ryan and Lisa Cyr Ostiguy. In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by a son, William Mills. A special thanks to friends and neighbors from the Bobcat Road, Clifton.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Clifton United Baptist Church, 742 Airline Road, Clifton.
