BANGOR and BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – George Standley Peavey, 67, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 21, 1943, in Bangor, to Henry L. and Elaine S. Peavey.

George had a great love for his family, and enjoyed summers in Maine and winters in Florida. He graduated from Bangor High School and was employed by Nissan Baking Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1994. His passion was fishing and he enjoyed his retirement doing what he loved, fishing the lakes of Maine and the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed life to the fullest and everyone around him enjoyed him to the fullest.

He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; his children, Diana Annis and her husband, Donald, of Norton, Mass., George Peavey and his wife, Teena, of Lake City, Fla., Kenneth Peavey of Lake City, Fla., and Kristy Gary of Brewer; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane Skinner and her husband, Allen, of Summerfield, Fla.; brothers, David Peavey of Rockport, Texas, Joseph and his wife, Janice, of Bangor, Victor and his wife, Crystal, of Glenburn and James of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends, Sue and Vin Grover; and lifelong fishing buddies, Gerald Clapp and Allen Skinner.
