AUBURN, Mass. – Lewis R. Lyons, 90, formerly of Dennysville, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Life Care Center, Auburn, Mass., after a brief illness. He was born in Eastport, a son of the late Carl and Eliza (Brown) Lyons.
Lewis was a graduate of Dennysville High School and was a Down East resident most of his life, moving to Auburn, Mass., a short time ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II, being honorably discharged as a private first class in 1945. He saw action as a member of the 7th Calvary in the Aleutian Islands, Philippines, Okinawa and Korea, during four beach landings. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge. Mr. Lyons worked as a laborer for most of his life, and retired from Maine Central Railroad in 1982 as a foreman. After his retirement Lewis became an avid gardener with his brother, Milton. He also enjoyed camping and bird watching. Lewis was a trustee of Dennysville Congregational Church and a former member of Dennysville Volunteer Fire Department and Dennysville Grange. He shared 20 years of marriage with his late wife, Gloria (Cox) Lyon, who died in 1965. He later married Ruth Prestor of Dennysville.
He is survived by his two sons, C. Lewis Lyons of Uxbridge, Mass., and Roy W. Lyons and his wife, Carol, of Douglas, Mass.; his daughter, Michelle L. Prudenzano and her husband, Roger, of Essex, Vt.; his five grandchildren, Erin Lyons, Joseph Lyons, Nicole Lyons, Shannon Lyons and Vanessa Hilton; his three great-grandchildren, Noah Rosaio, Emma Lyons and Camden Stewart; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Lyons; his brother, Milton Lyons; and his sister, Aleta Matherson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Lewis’ life 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Dennysville Congregational Church.
