HAMPDEN – Roger Philip Nightingale, 70, passed away May 24, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 2, 1941, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Philip S. and Nedra A. (Savage) Nightingale.

Roger attended Patten Academy and graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1960. He then graduated from the University of Iowa Dental School in 1967 and was a member of Delta Delta Delta, the professional dental fraternity. After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force he became a very well known dentist and was a prominent pediatric dentist in Bangor, serving children throughout the state. He was a member of Penobscot Valley Dental Society and was a past president of American Society of Dentistry for Children, a member of Masonic Lodge of Masons and Ducks Unlimited. Roger had a great love of the outdoors – whether it be fishing the rivers of Montana for rainbows, the brooks of Weeksboro for brook trout or hunting white tail deer. Some of the best times Roger had were bird hunting over one of his dogs with his daughters.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen A. Nightingale and Nicole A. Nightingale, both of Hampden; former wife and the mother of his children, Gail M. Nightingale; a sister, Carolyn Khanna and her husband, Gurcharan, and daughter, Katharine, of Rochester, N.Y.; a special cousin, Nancy Pullen and husband, Mike, of Old Town; one aunt, Eleanor Savage of Island Falls; several cousins and many special friends.

A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Dunn Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
