WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Virginia May Lyford, 86, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Windham Hospital. She was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Hermon, the daughter of John Pomelow and Dorothy Bulmer.

Virginia had been employed at Mansfield State Training School for more than 20 years prior to her retirement. She had been active at McSweeney Senior Center and enjoyed deep-sea fishing, NASCAR, bingo and crocheting.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Bartholomew of Willimantic, Conn.; a son, Michael Lyford and his wife, Dianne, of Chaplin, Conn.; a brother, Victor Pomelow of Bucksport; two sisters, Marion Carr of Dexter and Rowena Porter of Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, Maggie May. Virginia was predeceased by two sons, Stephen and Chris; and a daughter, Sherry Montoya.
