STONINGTON – William James Hardie, 77, died May 30, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Deer Isle, son of James and Flora (Philbrook) Hardie Jr.

William was a veteran serving six years in the U.S. Army. He spent his whole life working on the ocean as a fisherman. He was a member of Fisheries Development Corp. since 1974.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laurice Hardie of Stonington; four children, Lucy L. Poole of Brooklin, James E. Hardie Sr. of Stonington, William J. Hardie Jr. of Stonington and Troy L. Hardie of Deer Isle; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lillian Peabody of Massachusetts, Addie Mae Gove and Flossie Jean Welch, both of Deer Isle.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Haskell Cemetery, Haskell District Road, Little Deer Isle. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 9 Thurlows Hill, Stonington. Condolences may be sent at
