BOWDOINHAM – Douglas Owen Tuck, 73, of Preble Road, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at his home after a long illness. He was born Feb. 15, 1938, in Calais, the son of Josiah H. and Laura C. (Sennett) Tuck.

Doug lived in Bath and Portland in his youth and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955. On May 25, 1968, he married Judith L. Rome. While in the Air Force he served in various places around the world, including Vietnam, before his retirement at Loring Air Force Base in 1976. He then moved to Bowdoinham and worked at Bath Iron Works until his retirement in 2003. Doug was an avid motorcyclist and snowmobile rider all of his adult life. He was a member of Madawaska Snowmobile Club.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Judith Tuck of Bowdoinham; four children, Randolph Tuck and his wife, Mary, of St. Augustine, Fla., Sharon Chafee and her husband, Charles, of Mystic, Conn., Lawrence Tuck and his wife, Christine, of Weare, N.H., and Michael Tuck and his wife, Sandra, of Oakland; a brother, George Chester Horne and his wife, Bonnie, of Georgetown; seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the medical staff at the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, CHANS Home Healthcare, and the wonderful, caring people from hospice.

A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, with a reception after at the Stetson’s Funeral Home Reception Center. A committal service with full military honors will be 1 p.m. at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
