HERMON – George L. Burgess, 83, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Bangor, son of Elias and Margaret (Cheverie) Burgess.
George was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle, and he was very caring to others. He worked on the family dairy farm with his father, Elias, and brother, Dale. George served in the U.S. Army.
George is survived by his children, Donna Darcangelo and her husband, Vincent, of Hermitage, Pa., Mary-Ann Bouchard and her partner, Goldie Perkins, of Bucksport, Jo-Ann Brown and her husband, Glenn, of Palmyra, and Charles Villard of Bangor; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; sisters, Gene Greene of Hermon, Lucille Cowallis of Bangor, Aileen Seguino and her husband, Steve, of Bangor, Joan Orcutt and her husband, Sib, of Eddington, and Shirley Hurry of Florida; and special cousin, Wally Ahearn of Connecticut. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marian (Gray) Burgess; daughter, Diane Villard; brothers, Richard, Dale, Ernest and Charles Burgess; and sister, Anna Bart.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. After the service the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
