HARTLAND – Helmut R. Hass “Opa” was born March 1, 1920, in Berlin, Germany. He passed away peacefully June 14, 2011, at his home with his daughter, Bea Hanson, at his side.

Prior to moving to the United States from Germany in 2000, he was a retired power plant engineer. He also served in the German Navy during World War II. Some of his favorite pastimes were oil painting and horseback riding.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha; and a daughter, Monika. He leaves behind a brother, Ewald in Germany; his daughter, Bea and husband, James Hanson; grandson, Thomas Fick; granddaughters, Karin Miller, Karmen Hinman and Kateena Hook; and eight great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all. Rest in peace “Opa”!
