HERMON — Two car fires and a rollover made Wacky Wednesday exactly that at Speedway 95 as Winterport’s Chelsea Young persevered in the Ladies Series race that was stopped on lap 13 when Maria Miranda’s car blew a motor and erupted in flames.
She brought the car to a stop and hopped out uninjured.
Amy Houde of West Enfield took over the chase and pushed Young, but Young held the lead, Houde finished second and Mika Wilson of Chelsea was third. Amanda Batchelder of Fairfield was fourth and Danielle Beale from Hampden was fifth.
There was also a fire in the Big Enduros as the car driven by Adam Gardner of Brewer caught fire due to what may have been a broken fuel line in the front stretch. He escaped unhurt, but was out of the race.
The rollover occurred in the Stars of Tomorrow feature in the first lap as Lamoine’s Darit Him flipped over in turn three in the first feature race of his career. He was uninjured and didn’t let the mishap keep him from wanting to make a return.
