BREWER — The state Class C softball championship game between Eastern Maine champ Dexter High School (17-2) and Western titlist Telstar High from Bethel (17-1) was postponed Saturday due to the threat of showers and thunderstorms.
The game, which had been scheduled for 7 p.m. at Coffin Field in Brewer, has been moved to Monday at 7 in Brewer.
Dennis Kiah, the athletic director at Brewer High, explained that Telstar was scheduled to leave Bethel at noon so he had to make a decision by that time. They had intended to stop and eat in the Waterville area on their way to the game, he explained.
Kiah said the weather was calling for showers and thunderstorms so he didn’t want the two teams to make the trip to Brewer only to have it rained out.
It is approximately 110 miles from Bethel to Brewer.
The game had originally been scheduled for noon Saturday, but it was pushed back until 7 so members of the Dexter softball team could attend the funeral of Dexter kindergarten teacher Amy Lake, who was shot to death on Monday along with her children, Coty and Monica, by her estranged husband Steven, who also took his own life.
