WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a combined $383,340 in competitive grant funding to Greenville and Hancock County for local airport improvements, according to U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
Greenville will receive $89,127 to acquire land for hangar development at the Greenville Municipal Airport.
Hancock County has been awarded $294,212 to install a perimeter fence to help keep deer off the runway and to construct a taxiway at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton.
“Maine’s aviation infrastructure keeps its residents connected with the rest of the country and the world,” Snowe and Collins said in a joint press release announcing the grant awards. “These FAA grants will help these small airports make the necessary upgrades and developments to improve their air travel services and passenger safety.”
