AUGUSTA, Maine — A former social worker from Hallowell has been fined $4,500 and publicly reprimanded for smuggling illegal drugs and pornography, including nude pictures of herself, to an inmate at the Maine State Prison.
The Maine Board of Social Worker Licensure sanctioned 34-year-old Jaime Dale Semple Harnett for ethics violations after a hearing last month. She was not charged criminally.
The decision says that between December 2009 and May 2010, Harnett twice smuggled illegally obtained prescription drugs to the inmate as well as 10 DVDs with pornographic scenes and a cell phone with nude photos of herself.
The Kennebec Journal says Harnett expressed remorse and said she committed the acts after the suicide of a fellow prison worker and in the wake of her divorce.
Harnett resigned her prison job last year.
