BUCKSPORT — Former Ellsworth High and Stanford running standout Louie Luchini smashed a course record set in 1986 when he won the 36th annual Tour du Lac 10 Miler in 50 minutes, 20 seconds Saturday morning.
Luchini, 30, ran a 5:02 per-mile pace to eclipse the record of 50:46, set by Bucksport native Gerry Clapper.
Luchini, who is a state representative for Ellsworth, Otis and Trenton, won his second straight Tour du Lac and beat one of his peers in the legislature, Adam Goode, who represents Bangor. Goode finished in third with a time of 53:21 while Joshua Trevino of Orono captured second in 51:36.
Erik McCarthy of Orono took fourth place in 55:28 and Joe Capehart of Bangor was fifth in 58:27.
Kristine Guaraldo of South Portland also won her second straight Tour du Lac as she won the women’s race with a time of 1:02:29. She was followed by Katrina Bisheimer of Bucksport (1:13:17), Katherine Collins of Winterport (1:15:49), Johanna Szillery of Old Town (1:16:33) and Michelle Gagnon of Ellsworth (1:16:49).
A total of 85 runners finished the challenging race, which is part of the TradeWinds Market Place/Sub 5 Race Series.
