ELLSWORTH – Walter R. Bisset Jr., 86, died June 24, 2011, at Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center, Ellsworth. He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Blue Hill, son of Walter and Dora (Leach) Bisset.
Walter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Satterlee, from 1943 to 1946. He was married to Harriet Allen Bisset for 59 years. He graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, and joined the Maine Inland Fish & Game Warden Service in 1951. He was promoted to supervisor in 1961 and retired after serving for 30 years. He worked for Knowles Real Estate for 18 years. Walter also ran Ellsworth Alewife Trap for many years. He was a member of United Baptist Church, Ellsworth, and served on the board of deacons and trustees. He also helped at Baptist Youth Camp and with Macedonian Ministries. Walter was a member of the local Kiwanis Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
He is survived by two daughters, Valerie Heanssler and husband, Nelson, of Deer Isle and Belinda Bisset and partner, Lorianne Farrin, of Ellsworth; two grandchildren, Ann and husband, David, of Oxford, and Benjamin and wife, Sarah, of Deer Isle; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Isaiah and Claire. He was predeceased by his wife, Harriet, in April 2011; a daughter, Susan, in 1968; and a sister, Eva Dodge.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 1, at United Baptist Church, 38 Pine St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Scott Conners officiating. Interment will be at Seaside Cemetery, Blue Hill.
