HAMPDEN — Evan Kingsbury pitched a two-hitter and Matt Palmer doubled twice as Hampden defeated Brewer 5-2 to earn a split of their American Legion Zone 1 baseball doubleheader Wednesday.

Brewer won the opener 11-2.

The River Dogs scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the third inning, a rally sparked by Justin Amoroso’s two-run double and an RBI double by Palmer.

Derrick Bernosky added two singles and an RBI for 7-3 Hampden.

Tyler French hit a two-run double in the sixth inning for 7-3 Brewer.

In the first game, Blake Birmingham’s two-run single capped an eight-run Brewer rally in the top of the third inning.

Eric White added a double, single and two RBIs, Nick Moore singled twice with an RBI and Birmingham finished with three RBIs.

Evan Eldridge pitched a four-hitter for the Falcons.

Will Perkins singled twice with an RBI for Hampden, while Bernosky also singled twice.
