The New England Journal of Medicine recently published a study asserting that eating a potato-heavy diet is linked to weight gain. The report was covered in the Wall Street Journal and, in response, Sen. Olympia Snowe sent a letter to the editor in defense of the much-maligned tuber, a mainstay of Maine’s agricultural economy.
