BURLINGTON, Vt. — A Vermont woman is due in federal court to answer charges she embezzled more than $220,000 from a Barre heating oil dealer over five years.

Nancy Poirier of Williamstown was indicted last month on one count of embezzlement. She is due to appear in federal court Wednesday.

Court papers say that from January 2005 to July 2010 Poirier accepted cash and checks from customers as the accounts receivable manager at the company’s Barre office for payment for fuel oil, and posted those payments to the company’s accounting system.

She is charged with stealing cash payments.

Trono Fuels owner Peter Trono told the Burlington Free Press his company became aware of the alleged embezzlement during an in-house audit about a year ago.

Poirier did not return a phone message left Friday.
