ATHENS — Cailynn Goss of Hampden captured the gold medal in the 50-meter women’s butterfly during the Special Olympics World Summer Games on Sunday.
Goss, 22, won the F02 division final in 1 minute, 4.12 seconds, nearly 1.4 seconds ahead of runner-up Mariela Dominguez of Argentina.
It was the second medal for Goss, who was a member of Team USA 3 that captured the bronze medal Thursday in the 4×50-meter medley relay in the men’s M04 division. Team USA posted a 3:35.88.
Goss collected a fourth-place ribbon Tuesday in her first event, the 100-meter freestyle. Her time of 1:45.81 was 1.25 seconds out of third place.
Goss was one of approximately 7,500 athletes from 185 countries who took part in the games, which conclude Monday with the closing ceremonies.
