PITTSFIELD – Rev. Whitfield Curtis, 78, went home to be with the Lord, July 6, 2011. He was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Houlton, a son of Whitfield R. and Dorothy (Frasier) Curtis.

He graduated from Central Aroostook High School, Class of 1951, and Nyack College, Class of 1959. Rev. Curtis married the former Donna (Wotton), Dec. 26, 1951. He served in the U.S Air Force, from 1951 to 1955. He served as a Baptist pastor for more than 50 years in Maine and Canada. He was a member of Lake Road Baptist Church, Monticello.

In addition to his wife of Pittsfield, he is survived by four daughters, Vicky and husband, Glenwood Wakefield, of Howland, Faith Curtis of Palmyra, Kathy and husband, Terry Smith, of Bangor, Velma and husband, Byron Bell, of Mars Hill; one sister, Peggy and husband, Lawrence Sanders, of Smyrna; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila; a son-in-law, Ronald Curtis, Faith’s husband; a sister, Betty; and a brother, Bob. He leaves behind a special friend, Ray Sparrow, who has been both a driver and encourager.

Friday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Lake Road Baptist Church, Monticello, with Pastors Carl DeMerchant

and George Finnemore officiating. Friends may call at the church from noon until the time of services. Burial will be in Littleton Cemetery, Littleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haitian Ministries, 26 Riverbend Road, Glenburn, ME
