GRAND LAKE STREAM – Beatrice Norton Bagley, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Calais Regional Hospital. Bea was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Princeton, daughter of the late Roy and Alice (Norton) Bailey.
She graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1936, and attended Emerson Hospital School of Nursing, Concord, Mass., working in the Boston area. She joined the Women’s Army Corps, Nov. 12, 1942. She graduated from x-ray tech school and was stationed at Army General Hospital, Fort Carson, Colo. Bea was appointed postmaster by President Lyndon Johnson, Nov. 15, 1965, where she remained for 20 years. She was the last career postmaster in Grand Lake Stream. Bea was a member of Grand Lake Stream Union Church, Grand Lake Stream Historical Society and National Association of Postmasters.
In addition to her parents, Bea was predeceased by her husband, Llewellyn; her beloved son, Frank Richard; infant daughter, Mary Ann; three brothers, Frank, Fred and Earl Bailey; three sisters, Laura Sprague of Princeton, Katherine Maros and Mary Sheck of Grand Lake Stream; and two brothers-in-law, Percy Sprague of Princeton and Eugene Sheck of Maryland. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A double memorial service for Bea and her son, Frank Richard, who passed April 18, 2011, will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9, in the family lot at Village Cemetery, Grand Lake Stream. Those who wish to remember Bea or Frank in a special way may make a donation to Grand Lake Stream Union Church or Grand Lake Stream Historical Society.
