BANGOR, Maine — A Hartland woman who was involved in an accident Thursday morning before being pulled from her burning car by a Palmyra man was in serious condition Friday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Laura Morgan was hurt badly when her car drifted off Estes Road in Palmyra early Thursday morning. The car traveled along the shoulder of the road for more than 300 feet before hitting a tree which was down an embankment and hard to see from the road. Chad Curtis of Palmyra noticed smoke and pulled Morgan from her vehicle as it began to burn.

Curtis and Somerset County Deputy Don Avery said Thursday that Morgan had several injuries, including serious trauma to her legs. Avery said Thursday that Curtis undoubtedly saved Morgan’s life by pulling her away from the fire. Morgan was taken to EMMC by a LifeFlight helicopter.
