A Tuesday afternoon crash involving three trucks on Interstate 95 in Hermon turned into a four-vehicle crash when the trucks crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

The crash was reported shortly before 4 p.m.

Maine State Police determined that a pickup truck hauling a trailer failed to yield the right of way while merging onto the interstate from Coldbrook Road and hit a utility truck in the travel lane.

The crash forced the utility truck into a tractor-trailer in the passing lane. Those two trucks became entangled and went off the road, crossing the median and entering the southbound lanes of the highway, according to police.

The utility truck driver separated from the tractor-trailer and backed up into the median to avoid being hit by oncoming southbound traffic. But the tractor-trailer struck two vehicles that were traveling in the southbound lanes, police said.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash, police said. Traffic in the area was slowed while workers removed the involved vehicles.
