PALM COAST, Fla., and ROCKPORT – Phyllis C. Kaler, 90, of Palm Coast, Fla., passed away June 23, 2011, while surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was born May 10, 1921, in Rockport, the daughter and next to the youngest of 11 children to Roland and Annie Crockett.

She graduated from Rockport High School. Phyllis married the love of her life, Harold Kaler of Rockland, in 1940. She was a devoted wife and mother of three. Throughout the years, she loved gardening, spending time with her family boating on the ocean and skiing and skating in the winter. After the children were grown, Phyllis and Harold continued to enjoy their ocean experiences making several trips up and down the eastern seaboard from Camden to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In 1984 Phyllis and Harold retired and moved to Palm Coast, Fla. She will be remembered for her kind encouraging words, optimistic outlook on life and unending love and devotion to her family.

Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Harold; her daughter, Nancy Connon and husband, Jeff, of Camden; her son, Richard Kaler and his wife, Pam, of Overland Park, Kan.; her son, Ted Kaler and his partner, Bob Cluff, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; brother, Harvey Crockett of Rockport; and sister, Priscilla Crockett of Rockport. Phyllis was a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside committal service will be held 11 a.m. July 23 at Glen Cove Cemetery, Warrenton Avenue, Rockport, with a reception immediately after at Samoset Resort in the Schooner Room. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to Vitas Hospice at Volusia-Flagler, 2381 Mason Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
