OLD TOWN – Richard E. Dawes Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away July 14, 2011, with his loving family at his side, at home. Dick was born May 11, 1933, in Old Town, to Verna Mae Dawes. He was raised by his grandmother, Mary Louise Dawes.
He attended school in Old Town. While in high school Dick was an all-around athlete – basketball was his favorite. After high school he played semi-pro basketball for the Old Town Redskins. He also played fastpitch softball for various teams. Dick was employed for many years as a plumber for R.J. Morin Inc. After he retired he and his wife, Theola, enjoyed spending summers at their home on Pushaw Lake, Hudson. They spent their winters at their home in Venice, Fla. Dick loved having the family at the lake and enjoyed going to the grandkids ball games.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Theola Lenfest Dawes; daughter, Dawnitta and son-in-law, Rick Bailey, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; son, Richard E. Dawes Jr. and Janel Carter of Corinth; daughter, Cheryl and son-in-law, Alan Huston, of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Alice and son-in-law, Kevin McKay, of Milford; daughter, Lisa and son-in-law, Sean Fogg, of Hermon; daughter, Lori and son-in-law, Thomas Paull, of Venice, Fla.; sister-in-law, Sylvia Hachey and her husband, Gayland, of Veazie; brother-in-law, Leroy Lenfest of Georgia; 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his mother, Verna Mae Dawes; his grandmother, Mary Louise Dawes; son, Theordore Richard Dawes; sister-in-law, Fern Lenfest; and brother-in-law, Brian Lenfest. Visiting hours will be held noon until the time of funeral service 1 p.m. Monday, July 18, at United Baptist Church, 86 Middle St., Old Town, with a reception afterward.
